Reclaiming Youth International is pleased to announce that two world-renowned experts will be featured speakers at the 17th annual Black Hills Seminars.
Dr. Temple Grandin, autism advocate, animal behavior expert and bestselling author, will present on Sunday, June 27. Temple Grandin, a person with high-functioning autism, was diagnosed with autism at age three and although she experienced a difficult childhood, she considers herself lucky to have had supportive mentors throughout her life. She has been described as the most accomplished and well-known adult with autism in the world. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire, her master’s degree in animal science at Arizona State University, and her doctorate at the University of Illinois. Dr. Grandin is presently a Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University and is one of the world’s few designers of livestock-handling equipment. She speaks and consults world-wide on both autism and cattle handling. She is a compelling advocate for early intervention to address autism. Dr. Grandin is the focus of the recently released HBO full-length film Temple Grandin, starring Claire Danes (Feb. 2010).
