The Developmental Audit® / Deep Brain Learning
Date: April 16 - 18, 2011
Location: Harbour Towers Hotel & Suites, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Deep Brain Learning: Pathways to Potential with Challenging Youth by Drs. Larry Brendtro, Martin Mitchell and Herman McCall has been enlightening and inspiring youth workers world-wide since 2009. Presented as the first day of The Developmental Audit® training, this course will teach participants the latest brain science research as it relates to the development of children and adolescents. Deep Brain Learning is designed for teachers, clinicians and direct-care staff to better understand troubled youth and how to optimize their performance in educational and treatment environments. Participants will learn practical tools to connect with challenging and disruptive youth, methods to motivate reluctant learners, strategies to restore bonds of respect, pathways of the brain leading to trust and self-regulation, and the Circle of Courage Model's four universal needs of children in all cultures: belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.
The Developmental Audit® offers a fresh alternative to traditional deficit-based assessment. Professionals will learn how to engage the young person as a primary data source and full participant in this reflective and restorative process. The Audit teaches how to involve young persons who are in conflict to join in the process of solving problems and finding solutions, and is particularly relevant where youth are at risk for removal from school or placement in restrictive settings.
