Black Hills Seminar - Response Ability Pathways™ (RAP)

Restoring Respect: RAP Training

June 21-22, 2012

Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn,  Rapid City, South Dakota

"To meet life's challenges, all children need adults and peers who respond to their needs rather than react to problem behavior." --Dr. Larry Brendtro, co-author RAP training

RAP offers “essential training” for dealing with challenging children and youth.

Response Ability Pathways – or simply RAP – provides essential strength-based strategies for all who deal with young persons in family, school, or community. Children and youth need supportive persons who respond to their needs rather than react to their problems. RAP provides these response-abilities which enable one to guide young persons on pathways to responsibility.

Black Hills Seminar -Developmental Audit®

Developmental Audit®

June 21 - 22, 2012

Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn,  Rapid City, South Dakota

Developmental Audit® : Strategies for Strength-Based Assessment

The Developmental Audit® offers a fresh alternative to traditional deficit-based assessment. Professionals will learn how to engage the young person as a primary data source and full participant in this reflective and restorative process. The Audit teaches practitioners how to involve young persons who are in conflict to join in the process of solving problems and finding solutions, and is particularly relevant where youth are at risk for removal from school or placement in restrictive settings.

All children need opportunities for belonging, mastery, independence and generosity, components of the Circle of Courage resilience model. When these growth needs are blocked, the youth is at risk. By addressing these universal needs, a young person is able to take pathways to responsibility.

What is Life Space Crisis Intervention?

LSCI is a therapeutic strategy for using crisis situations as opportunities to help students learn alternatives to patterns of aggressive, disrespectful, or self-demeaning behavior. LSCI is being successfully used by teachers, counselors, alternative and special educators, mental health and juvenile justice staff, residential child care professionals, administrators, and others who deal directly with youth in conflict in family, school and community. LSCI blends psycho-dynamic, cognitive, behavioral and pro-social methods to develop powerful teaching and treatment interventions for our most challenging youth.
